Profile This: To Write Love on Her Arms
April 22, 2008
I found these guys browsing myspace again.
They absolutely moved me, and I totally think everyone should check them out and support them.
So what is “To Write Love On Her Arms?”
TWLOHA is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.
To Write Love on Her Arms began in Orlando, FL in February 2006 as a (written) story, the true story of five days spent with a friend who was denied entry into a drug treatment center. The story was a look at those five days, and the t-shirts were printed and sold initially as a way to pay for our friend’s treatment.
The story itself is quite beautiful, and made me cry when I first read it. Obviously, I haven’t gone through as much pain and addiction as this girl did, but I felt in a way I could relate. It’s a hard feeling.
Here is an excerpt:
“She has known such great pain; haunted dreams as a child, the near-constant presence of evil ever since. She has felt the touch of awful naked men, battled depression and addiction, and attempted suicide. Her arms remember razor blades, fifty scars that speak of self-inflicted wounds. Six hours after I meet her, she is feeling trapped, two groups of “friends” offering opposite ideas. Everyone is asleep. The sun is rising. She drinks long from a bottle of liquor, takes a razor blade from the table and locks herself in the bathroom. She cuts herself, using the blade to write “FUCK UP” large across her left forearm.”
Bands all across the world are supporting this great cause by sporting their t-shirts. They are lovely t-shirts by the way, I really want one. They can be purchased from their online store. Bands such as Amy Lee from Evanescence, Hailey from Paramore, and Brandon from Panic at the Disco, are supporting this charity.
So won’t you too?
Definitely check them out, and if you have any extra money support them!
Azale
xoxo
